Foreigners can buy property in El Salvador with 100% percent ownership, not to exceed 150 acres. All property needs to be registered with the Instituto Libertad y Progreso. Doing a title search on any property is extremely important. Real estate purchases generally take about 52 days.
It is a good idea to consult with an attorney that specializes in real estate as real estate brokers are not licensed in El Salvador. Prices of land vary according to area. Beach property in already established areas such as Costa del Sol, obviously commands a higher price. There are beautiful beaches in the Eastern part of the country where good deals can still be found.
